What are Whole Foods?

Everyone has their little theories on how to eat and what to eat. The idea that I hold close to my heart and truly believe in is the idea that whole foods are best for your body.

First of all, whole foods are foods that have had nothing taken away, and nothing added. Some processing is OK, after all, what is cooking? I'm not a raw foods guy.

However, once we start removing parts of our foods, we start losing its benefit. For example, most people think of white rice when you mention rice. But white rice is nothing but the starchy center of the goodness of whole brown rice. Same with white flour. We lose so many vitamins, minerals, proteins, fiber, etc. by stripping away everything but the calories.

My ideas for eating whole foods come mainly from my belief in evolution and that our bodies are most adapted to foods that come directly from nature. This idea certainly supports the theory that our foods should be whole as our body expects them that way.

I'd like to hear why other people choose the whole foods diet. Leave your comments in the forum.
